    So far at least the protests over Israel's slaughter in Gaza are no where the size or spread of the anti War protests of the 1960's and 70's. But they are the biggest college protests I have seen since then. And they seem to be spreading. Right now I am watching the police response to protests at UT-Austin in Texas. And that is interesting to me. Its one thing to protest in New York or California. But Texas? That's taking a whole another level of risk.

    Activist groups at the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Texas at Austin, and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, have all announced on social media that they will hold anti-Israel protests on Wednesday, April 24.

    Pro-Palestinian factions at all three universities have posted on social media indicating that they intend to hold "resistance" movements, including a post from the Hopkins Justice Collective which calls members to "stand in support of our brothers and sisters in Gaza, as well as the students on many college campuses across the country fighting for divestment from the settler colony of Israel."


    "Bring your signs, bring your posters, and — most importantly — bring your energy," the post continues.




    The newly anticipated anti-Israel protests come as activists have seen massive turnouts with hundreds of students at Columbia University in New York City and Yale in New Haven, Connecticut. Similar protests have risen at other universities in recent days.

    The University of Maryland - College Park, Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have all experienced similar protests in recent days targeted at Israel and its war with the terror group Hamas in Gaza.

    Many of the protesters are calling for an end to the fighting in the region, which has resulted in tens of thousands of civilian Palestinian deaths.

    "Our universities have chosen profit and reputation over the lives of the people of Palestine and our will as students. The supposed power of our administrators is nothing compared to the strength of the united students, staff, and faculty committed to realizing justice and upholding Palestinian liberation on campus," Students for Justice in Palestine, University of California Los Angeles wrote on Instagram.




    The post continued: "In the footsteps of our comrades at Rutgers-New Brunswick SJP, Tufts SJP, and Columbia SJP, we will take back our university and force our administration to divest for the people of Gaza!"



    In Austin, Texas, the Palestinian Solidarity Committee is calling for students to walk out of class on April 24, and to "occupy the South Lawn."

    "In the footsteps of our comrades at Columbia SJP, Rutgers-New Brunswick, Yale, and countless others across the nation, we will be establishing THE POPULAR UNIVERSITY FOR GAZA and demanding our administration divest from death," the post continues.

    The new protests are continuations of anti-Israel protests exhibited across the U.S.






    Protesters and agitators in the U.S. have successfully targeted and held protests at all top five U.S. universities, according to the U.S. News and World Report’s 2024 Best National University Rankings.

    These include Princeton, MIT, Harvard, Stanford, and Yale — each witnessing active anti-Israel protests in the last few days.



    According to these rankings, at least half of the top 50 U.S. universities have had active anti-Israel protests in the past week.

    While many of these universities have had anti-Israel protests in waves since the Hamas-led terror attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, they have seen more recent protests sparked by or after the April 17, 2024, Columbia University protests.

    Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says arrests of UT Austin will continue until crowd disperses.

    Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday said troopers are arresting anti-Israel protesters who had assembled at the university of UT Austin.

    “Arrests being made right now & will continue until the crowd disperses. These protesters belong in jail,” he said. “Antisemitism will not be tolerated in Texas. Period. Students joining in hate-filled, anti-Semitic protests at any public college or university in Texas should be expelled.”


    The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) on Wednesday said it arrested more than 20 people at UT Austin where anti-Israel protests broke out earlier in the day.

    DPS said troopers responded to the campus at the request of the university and at the direction of Texas Governor Greg Abbott “to prevent any unlawful assembly and to support UT Police in maintaining the peace by arresting anyone engaging in any sort of criminal activity, including criminal trespass.”

    “DPS will continue adjusting operations as needed in order to assist our law enforcement partners and maintain the public’s safety,” DPS said. “The department is committed to proactively protecting the people and property of Texas.”

    Video of the chaotic scene shows protesters surround troopers, calling them "pigs" while forming a human chain in a failed effort to prevent an arrest. Troopers can be seen pushing back on the crowd.

    That's how a real Govenor should act.

    “ANZACS BACK AGAIN” was the front-page headline of Jerusalem’s Palestine Post on 13 February 1940. The ANZAC reputation for courage and daring was legendary after their victory at Beersheba in 1917. That was the Palestine Campaign that saw the celebrated charge of the 4th Light Horse Brigade on the unsuspecting Turks. It was a battle that turned the tide of that campaign and led to the subsequent end of Ottoman rule in Palestine.

    During World War II, Palestine was under a British Mandate and Australian and New Zealand soldiers were back helping the British army to stop the Germans from capturing Egypt and the Suez Canal. They fought alongside several Palestinian brigades enlisted into the British Army under The Palestine Regiment. That decisive offensive took place in 1942 at al-Alamein, Egypt, the first allied land victory of the war.

    Tragically, more than 2,000 ANZACS from both campaigns would never see Australia or New Zealand again. Over 600 lie in unknown graves with Muslim and Christian Arabs and Jews who also died trying to defeat the German army. Other ANZACS are buried in war cemeteries throughout Palestine, two of which can be found in Gaza — one beautifully cared for in the Palestinian town of Deir al-Balah, and the other in Gaza City.

    The Beersheba Commonwealth War Cemetery has graves of some 175 Australian soldiers and lies on the edge of today’s sprawling commercial city that Israel has renamed Be’er Sheva. Our soldiers knew it as Beersheba with a largely Palestinian population.

    The New York Times of 1 November 1917 described Beersheba as an “ancient Palestine city, having much strategic value,” and during the British Mandate, it remained an administrative centre providing work and services for some 4,000 Palestinians who lived in the area. The next time Beersheba became a battleground was in 1948, when the army of the newly-created Israel captured the city and terrorised its Palestinian inhabitants into fleeing. It was never intended to become part of Israel under the 1947 UN Partition Plan, but like in other parts of Palestine, the Palestinians were never allowed to return to their homes.

    In an effort to conflate Australia’s Palestine Campaign with Israel, the Pratt Foundation in Australia, which contributes heavily towards Israeli causes, commissioned a statue in 2007 for a theme park set up in memory of the Australian soldiers in Beersheba.

    That was 10 years ago. A statement made months later by the then Australian Veteran Affairs Minister Alan Griffin, said that the Park of the Australian Soldier was a gift to the people of Be’er Sheva. However, for years the Israelis living there were ignorant of the site’s significance and wilfully neglected its heritage. In fact, the Australian government was forced to order an investigation in 2008, after the precious water wells, which the Australian soldiers had so bravely fought to secure, were found to be in a shocking state of disrepair and a virtual rubbish tip.

    Since then, the embarrassment for Israeli officials over the neglect of this historic site has passed. The statue was unveiled in Beersheba on 28 April 2008 to commemorate what many regard as the most significant victory of Australian military history. Australia’s then Governor-General Maj-Gen Michael Jeffery was there in Israel along with other international dignitaries for the ceremony — a first for our head of state. In contrast, Australia’s first Jewish Governor-General Sir Isaac Isaacs had vigorously questioned the legitimacy of Zionism (the founding ideology of Israel), describing it as “a monstrous historical crime and curse.” He did not live to see the state of Israel, but it is unlikely that he would have associated himself with it, particularly in light of its nefarious deeds since its creation 69 years ago.

    Gaza has particularly suffered because of Israel. Subjected for over ten years to an increasingly punitive siege, some 2 million starving Palestinians are barely 50 kilometers away from the annual commemorations in Beersheba. Their extreme humanitarian needs cry out for attention. They should not be ignored and neither should their history. Some of the heaviest fighting took place in Gaza during the Palestine Campaign when ANZACS and Palestinian soldiers fought the Turks to free Palestine from Ottoman rule. Now, the Palestinians are prisoners of Israel — not only in Gaza, but in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem — and fallen ANZACS rest in Gazan graves.

    The much-publicized ANZAC-Israel connection, especially for this year’s centenary commemorations, would appear then to be more about fudging history than honouring it. While most Australians would see the statue and park for the fallen ANZACS as a tribute to their soldiers fighting and dying for King and Country, Dan Goldberg, then editor of Rhapsody, a bi-monthly insert in The Australian Jewish News, wrote in his Jan-Mar 2008 editorial that it was “a permanent memorial to those who died in battle for the Jewish state.” This is a disturbing and historically incorrect remark, since the battle for Beersheba occurred 31 years before the state of Israel even came into being, or was created in Palestine for that matter.

    In fact, the Balfour Declaration of 1917, which sought British support for a Jewish homeland in Palestine, was still being debated by the British War Cabinet when Beersheba was captured. In the following decades, the British denied that a Jewish state had been intended — only a “national home” — and insisted that a clause be inserted stating that “nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine,” which in itself was insulting to the Palestinians who made up 92 percent of the population.

    It was not until 1947 that the United Nations member countries, amongst them Australia, unequally divided Palestine with the stroke of a pen and created Israel without consulting the Palestinians who had lived rich and productive lives in the cities, towns and villages under the Ottomans and later the British.

    Palestinians can only watch in despair as this year’s 100-year remembrances take place and the historical connection between Australia and Palestine is usurped by a state that did not exist when Australian soldiers fought there for the British Empire. While Australia’s fallen soldiers in Beersheba should indeed be remembered and honoured for their sacrifices, conflating the ANZAC victory with the establishment of the State of Israel is a disgrace. Both Australia’s Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and the leader of the Opposition Bill Shorten who are attending the commemorations, should know that not only are the Palestinians missing from the stories of the campaigns to liberate them from the Ottomans, but their very existence at that time is being expunged and denied by those who are brazenly falsifying history.

    War memorials everywhere show Palestine etched in stone. Graves in Gaza honour our soldiers. But even more telling, are the almost six million Palestinians who live in that land under Israel’s brutal occupation and siege and some 8 million refugees who are waiting to return home. They will not forget. It will take more than Governor-Generals, prime ministers and statues to expunge the history and memories of the ANZAC-Palestine connection, try as Israel might.

    A excellent post .The reason we gave the Jews a ''homeland'' was before WW2 a lot of western governments refused the immigration of Jews in some cases they were returned to die in the camps.The Jews whated to go to Palestine and with the guilt of the past we let them.The UK government at the time was worried about army and it job to control the Jews arriving from Cyprus by the 1000's in boats.The only way to stem the flow would be force of arms.The army chief's told the government the UK troops would probably not fire on the Jewish refugees arriving on the boat's because some had been in the army units that had liberated the NAZI death camps and the rest had seen the news reels about the camps.
    We did fight on the Jewish terror gangs and UK soldiers died at there hands ,we were in a no win situation so we left.But we also help train a army for Jordan to help the Palestinians cause.

    We've all seen the headlines and proclamations from the left, standing on their high moral ground, proclaiming that Israel is engaged in a program of genocide against Palestinians, and that they are targeting women, children, schools and hospitals.

    Well first, lets get one thing straight. Palestine and HAMAS are the same thing. Palestine gave HAMAS governing authority over GAZA two decades ago, they support HAMAS with money and shelter, they pay HAMAS terrorists a pension and pay families of slain HAMAS terrorists. Those tunnels found underneath hospitals in GAZA didn't get there without Palestinians knowing about them.

    Anyway, when the GAZA authority (HAMAS) reports new thousands of dead Palestinian women and children the leftists grab hold as if it were a lifeline to a drowning victim, and we're treated to new headlines proclaiming Israel is again slaughtering innocent women and children, cause, you know, GAZA authorities say so.

    And we've been saying for many weeks be careful what you believe, propaganda coming out of GAZA is HAMAS talking.
    Well, at least one media outlet has finally admitted what we've known all along.

    The BBC has admitted that its reporting of “civilian” casualties in Gaza was inaccurate and included the deaths of Hamas fighters.

    A report on BBC One’s News at Ten bulletin on Jan 14 covered a vigil in Tel Aviv marking 100 days since the Oct 7 attacks on Israel.

    Reporter Wyre Davies said two minutes into the report: “And the number of civilians killed in Gaza has been huge – very nearly 24,000 dead, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, many of them women and children.”

    The BBC’s editorial complaints unit upheld a complaint from a viewer, finding that the report “fell below the BBC’s standards of accuracy”.

    When the viewer complained that the report gave an inaccurate impression, failing to make clear that the quoted figure included combatants as well as civilians, the BBC initially responded by saying that the passage consisted of two separate sentences – with a full stop after “huge” – and that each sentence conveyed “distinct thoughts”.

    Complaint escalated
    However, the viewer took his complaint to the BBC’s higher Editorial Complaints Unit (ECU), which disagreed with the initial response.

    In its findings, the unit said: “In the ECU’s judgment, it was more probable that viewers would have heard the passage as a single sentence. But even if a full stop were the correct punctuation, the passage gave the unintended impression that the figure from the Hamas-run health ministry consisted only of civilian dead, whereas it also included combatants.”

    The findings have been referred to the BBC board.

    According to the most recent figures from the Hamas-run health ministry, more than 33,000 Palestinians have been killed and 76,000 have been wounded in Gaza during the current conflict. The terrorist group’s figures do not differentiate between civilians and combatants.

    The BBC’s coverage of the conflict has prompted a number of complaints about alleged impartiality. In October, the BBC conceded that a reporter made a mistake by speculating that an explosion at a hospital in Gaza was likely to have been perpetrated by Israel. The Israeli military later said that the hospital was hit by a rocket misfired by Palestinian militants.

    The corporation has rejected claims of bias, saying: “We are reporting on this topic like any other, staying true to our commitments to trusted, impartial journalism.”

    Please remember that we have very little neutral reporting in Israeli control areas.So it is impossible to say who is correct.Hamas contains it own casualties as well as civilians but this total is only deaths that have been reported via hospital admissions, how many more people are under the rubble or Buryed by they relatives uncounted.

    If Israel fails to defeat HAMAS completely we can expect HAMAS to come knocking on our doors once they finish up with Israel.
    That's what they say their mission in life is; destroy Israel and the west.
    I would rather see the destruction of HAMAS at the hands of Israel in GAZA than have to do the job on the streets of America.
